[Johnson] Ranger died

Hi,

I haven't even moved the Ranger off the table yet. It's just sitting
there unplugged and disconnected. It does have fuses of the size called
for and they did not blow. I was sitting right beside it - about 24
inches direct to my best eardrum - when I noticed the crackling sound
(faint) and turned it off. That's when I got the whiff of hot electronic
junk. Maybe the transformer is not ruinated even though something surely
is. I'm too far behind on my workbench to open it right now. I'll report
when I get to do that.

Another list member also knew Stan, W8CC, and when we talked about him
in private email I recalled him using it with a Kenwood R-599. I hadn't
even thought about that until now. The funny thing is I have been using
it with my own R-599! I hope torturing a tube transmitter by pairing it
with a solid state receiver hasn't wrecked the old Ranger <evil grin>.

73,

Bill KU8H
