it seems like that would be easy to fix with a phase splitter circuit. throw away the transformer. I don't see why a Viking one would be any less durable than any other AM transmitter.

 The driver trans limits the frequency response something awful too. One of the first things to go when cleaning up the audio.

The driver iron limits the modulation % well below 100% without serious 
distortion while the mod transformer is stressed much beyond 100% at 100W as 
it was designed for the lower power V-1. Raising the HV, changing to higher 
output tubes, etc is asking for trouble in either TX.

The Heath DX-100 mod xfmr can be substituted, there appear to be plenty 
available.
