I don't remember hearing of case history issues with the transformer but 
I do know there's no power switch, and I've inadvertently left 'em 
turned on for what might be called an "extended period of time".    This 
may have contributed to transformer failure.   I've since added power 
switches and indicators, or run them from a switched outlet.
