Jimmy,

I would only use a vacuum t/r relay only if you want to run QSK on CW. 
As others have said, the timing is critical in large plate-modulated 
transmitters such as the Desk KW. For timing issues, a great example of 
how the delay circuitry should be configured, I refer you to the t/r 
relay circuitry implemented in the Johnson KW Matchbox. It has delay 
circuitry specifically designed to handle large transmitters such as the 
Desk KW. You can build a similar delay circuit for the Dow Key. The KW 
Matchbox manual can be found on the BAMA website.
