[Johnson] AC Circuit Wiring Question

Similar question for A/C welder (buzz box). Socket in garage of a brand new house is 4 wire. Plug on brand new welder is 3 wire. Installed new 3 wire socket and let ground float inside the box. Have I done wrong?
