I say reinstate ol' Carl. I'm pretty thick-skinned and I can ignore his occasional crap. He has an opinion about everyone, mostly negative, but we all know what to expect, and when he attacks, we just roll our eyes and press on (grin.)
I don't feel angry or retributive any more. Reminds me of some folks who say they have a strange uncle, and love 'em anyway. 

A lot of guys have that Keyboard Courage thing, and say things they wouldn't say in person.
