[Johnson] Slide rule - was: Johnson T-R Switch Receiver muting

I have a little K&E student rule--it is mounted just above a 1960 Olympia
SM-3 manual typewriter hanging on the wall of my office. A note in the
typebar tray says it all--"For Use In Case Of Emergency"...

I had the Deci-Trig-Log-Log for many years. In high school I wore it in a
leather holster, and earned the nickname "Professor Slipstick". ARRL is
slightly off base in one of its claims. My slide rule and manual typewriter
will certainly continue to work "When all else fails".

Hi,

I still have three slide rules around here somewhere. Once upon a time
(1981 or 1982) at Field Day somebody from one of the phone stations came
around looking to borrow a calculator as theirs had dead batteries. I took
my slide rule to their station for some antenna work. Of course, I also had
to use it for them <evil grin>. They were amazed their antenna worked FB on
the first cut. One nice feature of slide rules - the batteries never run
down!

To be honest - a slide rule was not really required for those calculations
just as a calculator would have been gross overkill.
