The free version of "Nitro PDF Reader" (Google it) will extract images
from PDF documents to JPG's which you can then edit with the image
editor of your choice.

There's a button which says, "Extract Images". Push this button and a
popup asks "Where from ?". The JPG's will be put in the source folder
by default.

In the case of PDF manuals from BAMA, which were created from scans, all
pages will be converted to JPG's.

I've found this to be a valuable tool in working with PDF's. If you fool
with PDF's much, you'll wonder how you got along without it. There are
some things the free version won't do but I've seldom come up against
the limitations.
