Johnson folks,
The web site where I Iearned about this is:
Johnson VFO chirp frequency jump
http://www.w8ji.com/johnson_vfo_chirp_jump.htm
Which explains: " I finally figured out the problem was ground
currents looping through the shafts and front panel, and getting into
the VFO through the VFO shaft and other housing shield gaps."
The site is owned by Charles Rauch, W8JII. (I thought it was another
person, but have gotten it straight now.) His pages on Johnson
equipment are:
[ Johnson TR Switch ]
[ EF Johnson Viking Ranger ]
[ Valiant ]
[ Audio Mod Ranger Valiant ]
My impression is that these pages should be required reading and study
for Johnson equipment owners, especially anyone inclined to do the
rather extensive mods found on the AM Window site and at other
places. The explanations and suggestions presented by W8JI impress me
as being well founded in experience and measurements, reasonable, and
easy to understand.
Thank you, Charles!
Roy
