Hi Al,
That's not a good reason to remove the AM parts. A CW op might elect to
not replace a burned out modulation transformer and then lighten ship a
little *after* that has happened. In my case I just pulled the tubes
from the AM section and run the radio (and power transformer) cooler. It
isn't really noticeably much lighter.
My DX-100 was done that way. I have waded into it for recapping and etc
and noticed the Modulator iron is *gone*. I didn't realize that before -
so now you know I used it on CW only. There is some evidence the
transformer fried first. Maybe I'll replace it just to have it available
if I get a fever or something and want to operate AM (been thinking
about it).
I hope you will keep your Valiant. Eventually you will heal and be able
to move it again. Meanwhile just ask somebody close to you to move it
for you when needed. I'll come and move it for you. It might take me a
while to get there. What's for supper? <grin>
I'll light some candles and offer some words on your behalf for a good
outcome.

Bill KU8H
