Hi Charles,
Now what in the world would have possessed someone to do anything that drastic...? Why not just leave the mode switch permanently on the "CW" setting, & leave it at that...?!
I guess we'll never know, will we?
Sadly, one of the most desirable parts from a Ranger is the modulation transformer itself---and I'll bet that was the FIRST thing the previous owner pulled out! IMHO opinion, that rig should now "give" so that others like it might "live"---in short, part it out. It's too much of a project to restore to original condition anyway, from the sounds of it...
