Of course, this may only apply to mine, but my Ranger had a horrible
chirp. Earlier I had replaced R8 (or R6 on another schematic), the V3
screen grid resistor, which should have been 68k but had migrated up to
over 100k. This helped the 80 meter grid drive problem I had but in the
end, it it took replacing R9 to finally fix both the drive and chirp.
R9 is attached to the bandswitch under the bandswitch shield under the
chassis. R9 was cooked and split but not visible from outside the
shield. I had checked this resistor off my list but obviously hadn't
really checked it. I suppose this resistor had failed because of the R8
problem.
Anyway, now I have no chirp. CW looks great on the SB-610 and sounds great.
From the suggestions when I was chasing the chirp a while back, there
seem to be as many sources of chirp as there are Rangers.
