You don't really have to replace that resistor if you are willing to do
a 
simple modification.  I don't have the details at hand but the overall 
effect is to considerably reduce the power dissipation in the Ranger
while 
eliminating the 30K resistor.  I made that change to my Ranger a year
ago 
based on information I found on the web.  I'll look it up if you want me
to 
but you can probably get the info faster  via Google "Johnson Ranger 
modification".

Actually is rated for 12 Amps (1400 watts.)
