[Johnson] Ranger Paint: some observations

Thanks to all for the helpful replies regarding the Kona Brown.

I bought a can at Home Depot and tried it on my escutcheon, which I
painted years ago with something I bought at an auto parts store and
have regarded for all these years as being too light and an annoying
mismatch.

The Kona Brown is a perfect match for my mismatched escutcheon.

I've gone ahead and painted the escutcheon and cabinet with the Kona
Brown since I believe they'll look better even in the wrong color than
they do now and I'll be no worse off.

I'm mystified by the post I found on another forum where the guy said
that Kona Brown was a "Perfect match!!" I believe the difference is too
great to be merely due to variations among batches.

What turned me off getting a batch of Glen's formula and a spray gun was
my experience at the local Sherwin Williams and I was going to have to
order a spray gun. The lower priced touch-up guns weren't available
locally and I hate paying 50% of the item price in shipping.

The Sherwin guy kept quibbling with me about using acrylic instead of
enamel on a metal case. To cut the story short, he didn't quit until I
told him that my wife has a condition which makes her extremely
sensitive to smells and if I used enamel I wouldn't be able to bring the
cabinet inside until next year. Also, their price for a quart of
acrylic is twice the Home Depot price. I'm not painting the bottom of
the case and if the Kona Brown annoys me too much, I'll have the case
matched at Home Depot and order a spray gun.
