Al,
With the lead colors you are describing, that more closely matches the plate transformer and not the modulation transformer.
Both the Valiant and Valiant 2 modulation transformers have 7 leads total: Blue, Brown, Red, Yellow, Red-Yellow, Green, and Green-Yellow. It is located about 1/3 of the way back of the front panel.
The plate transformer is located at the rear of the chassis and should have two red leads, a red-yellow lead, and two black leads.
I have two Valiant 1's and a Valiant 2 that are wired this way.
Are the leads you identified all coming directly from the transformer?

Subject: [Johnson] VIKING VALIANT QUESTION
Hi
I've recently acquired 2 ea Viking Valiants from different estates.
After testing tubes, caps etc I've noticed something strange.
Under the chassis of one there is a 6 pin terminal strip which has all the T3 Modulation transformer leads wired to it and I count 4 red and 2 black leads to it.
The other Tx has a 5 pin terminal strip. 4 red leads and 2 black leads to it but there is another black lead from the Transformer which goes straight to the plate of one of the 6146 modulators!!
Both transformers are labeled P2998 but the older tx has one more lead.
The resistance readings of one are also different from the other.
Is this an earlier version or was a factory mod made or what?
Does anyone know please??

Al
