Many thanks to you and the others who replied to my Chirp questions. 

Your archive of Valiant problems and fixes is a real treasure trove for me.
Your fix of grounding the plate cap shaft will be one of the first things I
try. 

I really like the rig and have always thought the Valiant and the series
that used the "Ranger" VFO dial were some of the best looking rigs produced.

As soon as I can get to it, I will post the results to the group.
