A very sensible policy and a helpful suggestion about filtering. I
think it is very interesting how some folks will take the time to post
a message complaining about this issue rather than use that same time
to set up the filter and avoid future hassle.
The use of FS (for sale), FT (For trade), FA (for auction) etc in the
subject line make it a very easy process. Similarly I filter
messages marked OT (off topic), and those from one individual and it
works great.

Subject: [Johnson] Policy on this reflector regarding items for sale
My
policy on this reflector regarding items for sale:
I have said before, and I will repeat it now: it is
perfectly alright with me if anyone mentions an item for sale,
regardless of
where it is being sold. This includes ebay. I greatly PREFER that the
subject line includes the
letters FA, and I INSIST that such messages are not repeated more than
once per
week, and would prefer a message be listed once only-barring serious
p
rice
reductions. It must be-at least remotely-related to [CW].
It should be mentioned that bandwidth simply is not a
problem-the only problem then becomes the hassle. Toward that end, I
submit the
following suggestions for setting up Outlook relatively easily to avoid
emails
containing the phrase “FA”.
Most SPAM programs can be set to automatically remove
emails based on an undesirable word or phrase in the title, and FA in
that
subject line greatly improves the likelihood of that working. For
example, in Outlook you can simply
block emails containing ... by going to Tools > Rules and Alerts:
then select New Rule… which will bring up
the Rules Wizard:
As you can see, there are all sorts of rules you may
formulate. The 2nd item would allow you to specify “FA”
as an email deserving to be moved to your Junk Email or Deleted Items
folders.
Yes it is true that this is a hassle for those folks you
do not want to see such emails, and it comes down to my feeling that I
would
rather see a For Sale notice about something CW-related (and a
BoatAnchor TX IS
CW related) than not.
