Hi all, Just a follow-up. I guess that 130 degrees isn't out of the ballpark as far as hot is concerned, but, last week at one of my favorite resale shops (St. VincentDePaul) I spotted a transformer on the floor. Well it was a Sola constant voltage transformer with an output voltage of 118 VAC. Only $2.00 so home it came. I hooked it up to the Ranger and it did deliver 118 volts out with 123 in. The temp on the transformer was still 130 and the Sola transformer was also at 130 after 2.5 hour. Interesting! I was then surfing the net and ran across Phil Salas AD5X's site with his Ranger modifications page. I took them to heart and did them (did the PTT a little different) and the temp dropped significantly-- down to111 degrees after 2 hours of idling. So, those two rectifiers and big resistor do do a job in contributing to the heat. I must thank Phil AD5X for his very easy to understand modifications and now I feel more comfortable with the temp inside of the Ranger.
Thanks to all who responded to my call and now onward and on to AM forever.
