Brian,
Be extra careful with the VFO shaft, it is connected through a semi-flexible
coupler that is easily broken. I have had to repair and/or replace many of
these over the years. Outside of that, it's just a matter of taking your
time and not losing the parts. HI HI
Good Luck and Happy Thanksgiving..

Hi Brian,
Actually, the bezel comes off fairly easily so I don't think you will
have any problems. In addition to the main tuning knob you will need to
pull the two small knobs to get to the nuts just above their control
shafts. It has been a little while since I have been into my Ranger but
I believe that one or both of the small control shafts also have
couplers on them so if the knob is stuck you may be able to loosen the
coupler and remove the entire shaft instead. After you remove the two
small nuts then the only thing holding it on are the pilot lamps which
are released from the nuts in the back. Again, I don't think you will
have any problems with this project. On the other hand, I spent about
20 minutes last night getting the tension reset on the anti-backlash
gears in the Hallicrafters ARR-7/R-45 I was working ont. I hate having
to fool with those split gears but I realize they are a necessary evil
to reduce backlash.
Have a nice Thanksgiving.

to do for the faint of heart. And much like the fool who tries to repair
his watch, I would like to solicit any advice from those who have gone
before me. What do I need to do (or not do) to remove the bezel with a lot
of hand wringing an gnashing of teeth. Thanks. Brian K9VKY
