Gentlemen,

Here is a little trick that may be of some interest. On the rear of the
Valiant J-4 supplies 115V for what-ever you need. Unfortunately the plug to
that jack is very hard to find. I did find a substitute but was not happy
with the connection between the two. I purchased a FT-243 crystal and jack
assembly from Brian Carling. I removed the ceramic j-4 from the Valiant and
installed the two jacks from Brian. They are a drop in fit but you might
want to use a couple of small washers on each side. I took the crystal and
removed the innards and drilled a hole in the top the size of a small
covered wire that had two #22 hook up wires in it. I ran the wire thru the
hole and soldered them to the crystal pins. Reinstalled the cover for the
FT-243 and now I have a plug that fits the new j-4 perfectly and supplies
115v to operate my antenna relay.
