Gary,

The knobs with the white pin on the face of the knob (Ranger/Valiant)
use a 1/4" length of the rod; knobs with the pin in the rear
(Thunderbolt) use a 1/2" length (I have original examples of both).
Both lengths are finished lengths. I use an X-Acto razor saw and miter
box to cut the pins. Cut the ends square, buff out the saw marks, then
very slightly round the edges of the cut ends, then insert into the
knobs. My original Thunderbolt pin isn't beveled, neither are my
Valiant pins.

They should be a nice press fit into the knobs. Don't use cement unless
you have to; ordinarily friction is sufficient to hold the pins in. If
not, rough up the portion of the pin that goes into the knob a bit with
a knife.

Go slowly while you are doing this; you don't want to damage a knob.

New indicator pins go a long way towards restoring the appearance of
these transmitters.

regards,

Mahlon - K4OQ
