It is more of a maroon color than brown (has more
"red" in it than a true brown).
Supposedly there are some auto "touch up" sprays that
are very close to the original color.
I had some oil base paint computer matched by
Sherwin-Williams to the Johnson maroon a couple of
months ago for use on replacement knobs that I am in
the process of developing. However, I recommend using
acryllic paint for cabinets because it dries MUCH
faster (minutes as compared to hours) especially when
doing the painting under the conditions of most "do it
yourselfers".
The formula for the oil base (1 quart) using deep base
satin # 6403-25775 is as follows:
BAC Colorant OZ 32 64 128
B1-Black - 22 - -
R3-Magenta - 6 - -
R4-Red - 8 - -
Again, this is for oil. However, your local paint
store should be able to work from this formula to get
an acryllic paint. Satin finish comes out really
close to the original finish on the paint.
You will need some sort of paint gun or "spray rig" to
use this paint unless your local paint store (I use
Sherwin-Williams) is one of those that can load spray
paint cans (not that common but there are some). A
quart of paint normally runs between $11 and $13 and
will be plenty to paint a number of cabinets.
However, one quart is the usual minimum size that the
paint store will custom mix.
Also, for other shades of paint you can take your
cabinet to be "computer matched". I do that all the
time for various "boat anchor" cabinets. As I stated
above, I use Sherwin-Williams and haven't had any
problems with the color matching including Collins,
Hallicrafters, and Heath colors.

Does anyone know what the brown color on the case is
called? I just picked one up today in decent shape
except it could use new paint, thanks,
