I haven't found any "off the shelf" wrinkle paint in
quart or even gallon cans. But, I haven't really
looked for a while. I have had very mixed results
with the wrinkle paint that comes in the spray cans.
Sometimes it works very well and sometimes even with
items that are painted at the same time I get results
varying from excellent wrinkle to almost no wrinkle or
very "spotty" wrinkle.
What I use for medium to heavy crackle is Rustoleum
American Accents Stone Creations. It comes in several
colors and the gray color seems to work the best. You
have to practice a few minutes to get the crackle
"just right", but once you get "the hang of it" the
results are very good.
By the way, I tried the paint gun for the first time
today and the results were excellent. I was painting
quite a number of small items and the amount of paint
coming out of the gun was very easy to control. For
larger items (like cabinets) I normally use either a
DeVilbis or a Wagner paint gun. But, both of those
put out more paint at a time and it is very easy to
get too much paint on the very small items.
I also have an HVLP gun that I bought new from Harbor
Freight over a year ago. However, I really don't like
it. My compressor was made by DeVilbis and it works
great with all of my other guns but it is very
marginal in handling the amount of air needed by the
HVLP. If I come up with a larger compressor then
maybe the HVLP might work better. However, I can't
justify the expense of a larger compressor just to use
with one particular paint gun!
I don't purchase that many items from Harbor Freight,
but their paint guns are definitely of very good
quality. The ones that I have bought there are at
least as good, and probably better than, either my
DeVilbis or my Wagner guns and they are MUCH cheaper!

Hey Glen - Have you found any wrinkle paint in a quart
can? I understand you can make your own by putting a
LOT of dryer in mix but I'm wondering if I can buy it.
