Last year I had a chance to pick up a Ranger that needed a lot of TLC.
I had a ball rebuilding this old AM transmitter and getting it on the air.
My last AM transmission was in about 1965 and I missed the sound of old
Ancient modulation.
It was a fun change from chasing DX on SSB and CW.
As I got "into" the AM group I found that things had not changed from the
60's.
The old farts were still complaining about "slop bucket" and there was a
whole generation of AM'ers that had not progressed into the next century.
I lived thru the AM/SSB wars of the 60's and I thot they were dead, not so.
AM is fun and sounds nice on a wide band RX, but it is a side hobby and does
not replace my main interest in SSB/CW.

Hi Larry,
I am sure that others can address this more comprehensively for
you. We are glad to tell about why we love AM so much!
Well, it is just a WHOLE LOT of enjoyment runningAM, listening
to those dulcet tones of AM on the other end.
It is far more relaxing to listen to than the hyped up pumping
sounds of the typical distorted duck-cuacking SSB signal.
Not that some of us do not also enjoy using SSB and other
modes from time to time. The fidelity is generally far better
and the background noise often gets blanked nicely by the
carrier. Much easier on the ears and the soul!
You just have to experience AM for yourself.
It is not "going back" when you use "Advanced Modulation."
