[Johnson] Valiant VFO questions

All: I have a Valiant that STILL pulls somewhat.  I can put a load on the
VFO connector for the SSB generator and shift the VFO frequency (which I
don't think I'm supposed to be able to do).  I have been through the rig,
but haven't been able to put this problem to bed yet.

I am thinking of two possible routes that could be introducing this problem:
(a) the differential keying circuit, and (b) a failed component in the VFO
itself.  Anyone else have other suggestions?

I'm definitely NOT looking forward to digging into the VFO, and one of the
reasons is that I don't know where to obtain the silver mica caps needed to
do a thorough rebuild (if I'm going to rebuild it, I'm going to do a
complete job on it).  Any suggestions here?

Side note: If there's someone local to Manassas, VA, that would allow me to
make a handful of measurements on another Valiant or Valiant II, I'd be
thrilled.
