[Johnson] Invader VFO Heater

I wonder if anyone has had any experience with changing the 1K 10W heater
resistor mounted on the VFO housing of the Viking Invader.  The resistor
mounting bracket of mine is really too hot for any thing other than a
momentary touch.  The VFO housing itself seems much too warm to do the
components mounted inside any good.  I am going to change mine to a higher
value resistor to reduce the amount of heat.

I know the Invader, true or false, has had a reputation for VFO drift.  I
just wondered if anyone had tried changing the resistor and what were the
results.
