The PTT mod in the Johnson Ranger book does not seem to 'mutilate' the
radio, if done properly and with a bit of taste and discretion - it
involves installing a small relay, a couple of resistors and a capacitor -
the some cut/changes to a few of the wires - but aside from drilling a #6
or #8 sized hole in the chassis to mount the relay - should be pretty
sanitary.
Unfortunately neither of mine have that - and but one does have the
Keyer mod - I intend to add this PTT circuit to that one.
I'd be happy to scan the relevant pages into a .pdf for you, if you don't
have the manual with the rig.
