    The one 'non-standard' mod I've made to my Valiant and three Rangers, 
is to put a single fuse in the mains hot line under the chassis, and 
install a modern 3-wire grounded cord.

   With the existing double-fuse plug in the "wrong" position, and the 
'hot' side fuse blown, the rig will appear dead but still have line 
voltage on it's chassis - those fused plugs are one degree of stupidity 
above the old transformerless AC/DC sets - "Safety? It's perfectly safe! 
The case and knobs are insulated - and look how much money we save by not 
using a transformer..."

   Of course back in those days you weren't very 'with-it' unless you had a 
Camel in one hand and a Martini in the other....  ;}   Ah, for the 50s!
