[Johnson] Viking II PTT

Greetings!
    I am working on a Viking II and would like to  insure that I am using and 
wiring a jack that is "right." Should I be able to  install a 1/4" jack with 
tip=ptt, ring=mic, and sleeve=ground? Does it have to  have the mic closed to 
ground when the mic plug is not inserted? 
    Does anyone have a source for the 20,000 wire wound  resistor? Mine has 
some broken wires.
    Any nice VFO 122s out there? 
    This was my very first transmitter when I was a  novice in 1965. I 
remember that key clicks were an issue. I wonder if there are  any modern solutions 
to this old problem that aren't sacrilegious to the  rig?
