[Johnson] Another Valiant Newby question

Johnson made two "power" attenuators. One used just
resistors and was made to use the Ranger with the
Thunderbolt and desk kilowatt. The other had
resistors and a 75 watt light bulb in it as well to
take additional power. However, with a Valiant you
should reduce the power somewhat to keep the drive to
the Thunderbolt within reason when using the "high
power" attenuator. You can cut the power of the
Valiant to at least as low as 100 watts output without
any problems. It is just when you try getting down to
like 50 or 60 watts that you start running into
trouble. Of course the input power is going to be a
"fair" amount greater.

I do manufacture the low power attenuator but actually
make it so that it will attenuate twice as much power
as the original. Well, I use the original circuit but
not the original housing, etc. I have not tried to
make the higher powered unit but, with a combination
of higher powered resistors and light bulb it
shouldn't be too hard to make. Just more expensive!

There is a description on the Zcomco website which is
listed at the end of this message.

You mean attenuators as in power absorbers?

What is the minimum power level the average Valiant is
'happy' with, without resorting to a power absorber?

If I wanted to stay 'all in the family' and get, say,
a Thunderbolt - what is the required 'attenuator' and
is it possible to find one nowadays?
