[Johnson] Viking Ranger question - update

I hate it when you have to repair test equipment so you can repair a radio.
I had a "KEITHLY" digital volt meter that was always going on the blink.
Well,,,,,,, true store,,,,,,, it did it again and I calmly walked back to
the house, picked up my
30-30, while walking back to the shop, loaded one round. Walked into the
shop, took careful aim and pulled the trigger. I have never felt better for
a long time. The other test equipment have not given me any trouble since
then.
TRUE STORY.
Regards,

Subject: [Johnson] Viking Ranger question - update

> Changing the fixed capacitors (non-NPO types) seems to have solved the
problem.
> I get a full bandspread now, will see how the final calibration goes......
>
> A funny thing happened on the way to fixing the Ranger.....
> To check capacitor leakage I put the capacitor in series with an HP
variable supply and an HP-410C.
> The capacitors I pulled from the Ranger showed a lot of leakage, a real
lot....
> Just for the heck of it I tested a new Mouser capacitor and it also showed
a lot of leakage????
> As I was pondering this, the variable supply went snap-crackle-pop and
died......
> There must have been an AC component in the output of the HP power supply
and that showed up on the VTVM.....
> (the VTVM was acting a little squirrelly)
>
> The HP supply will go on the bench when the Ranger is cleared off......
> Isn't electronics fun? up one, then down one......never getting
ahead......
