[Johnson] Viking Ranger question

I finally got my Ranger up and running.
There are still a few minor quirkes and one major.

The VFO covers the two fundamental frequencies (1.75-2.0 and 7.0 to 7.4 
Mcs.) in about half the dial span.
no manner of tweaking will get the band spread to cover the full 180 degrees 
of the dial.

I feel that I am going to have to dismantle the radio (again) and change the 
VFO fixed capacitors.

Before I dive in any other ideas????
