Cal: All Speed-x bugs had a small coil spring, approx. 1/4" diameter of fine
wire, located on the side opposite the binding post terminals or the side
opposite the circuit closer switch. The spring's purpose was to return the
leaver (that the pendelum is attached to) to its normal rest position when
pressure was released from the dit side of the paddle. When the paddle was
pressed to the right; the leaver will swing to the left on the pivot, and
cause the pendelum to oscillate or vibrate thereby cause a string of dits to
be formed. The spring pushed on the leaver that the pendelum is attached to
causing the leaver to return to its neutral or middle (at rest) position when
finger pressure was released. All Speed-X keys had this spring. If yours does
not have one, try installing a small spring from a ball point pen to achieve
this effect. - 73- Sherrill W. k4own.
