I am "fairly" knowledgeable about the 6146 family. 
You might want to read the article that was in
Electric Radio a while back which I have reproduced on
my websites the URL of which are listed at the end of
this message.

The 6146B / 8298A is a completely different tube from
the 6146 / 6146A / 8298.  RCA originally said that the
6146B was completely interchangeable with the earlier
tubes.  Unfortunately, this did not work out in most
cases.  The various circumstances about this are
outlined in the article.
