The Viking II uses a 6AU6 as the crystal oscillator /
VFO Buffer.
The 807s in the modulator are used to modulate the
6146 final amplifier tubes, not to drive them. The
driver is a 6AQ5 which is driven by the 6AU6.
In the audio circuitry there are two 6AU6 tubes, one
as the microphone preamplifier and the other as the
driver to the push-pull 807s which serve as the plate
modulator. However, again, the 807s are the modulator
and NOT the driver for the 6146 final amplifier tubes.

I thought the 6AU6 in the Viking II audio chain was
used first as the microphone amp', and then to inject
this product into the 807's which where then used to
drive the 6146's.
