All: The Valiant audio kinda degrades below about 100 Hz.  There's also a
bypass cap in part of the audio B+ circuitry that is way undersized.  I
changed out the driver transformer in mine and changed a bunch of cap values
and it's pretty good, but the bass response is still kinda thin.  It's OK,
though, for the amount of time I get to use it.

I never owned a DX-100 or an Apache (although I did get to operate the
Apache and SSB adapter once).

I just wish the Valiant was designed for rack mounting.  It'd go really well
with the R-390A in a rack...
