[Johnson] Viking 2 -- CDC Civil Defense Model?

Good info from everyone on the Johnson Viking 2. I regret to say, as was
suggested, that I can't re-install the CD decal. Had I to do it over again,
I would have left it. I am now much wiser about these things.

In fact, when I got it, I didn't even know it was a "special" sort of Viking
2 -- it was only after I put it on the air that I learned it was not your
usual rig.

Today, I just call it my "WARC" Viking 2. But if the truth were known, I
have used it only on 160, 80 and 10.

Just a thought: I think Heathkit's DX-100 is better than the Viking 2. That
Heath has more iron and seems to be able to fully modulate all the carrier
its RF section can make. My Viking could make the same amount of RF as my
old DX-100, but it was really incapable of full modulation. In fact, it
would distort because the 807s were going into grid current. Johnson claimed
the modualtors were capable of AB2 (as I recall), but in my expereince with
this one, single, isolated Viking 2, I concluded the engineers must have had
a bottle in their desk drawer. Thier modulator section did not have any
needed "head room." The DX-100 did.
