I also used the challenger for a while, especially as a novice - and I 
really tried to keep the input to 75 watts, even thought the rig was rated 
as 120 watts.  I was positive the FCC van was parked right up the street 
waiting for me to go the full limit while a novice (1960).
    I own a Ranger with problems and a set of Valiants, also with problems. 
Never have enough time to get either one of them going but the power out for 
the Valiant really can make the difference at times.
