Hi John!!!

Done!!! I live in MI Just kidding.
coupling INSIDE the VFO can has begun to slip.... once in a while it'll
nudge the tuning, but mostly the dial and shaft turn, the VFO cap does not
- I got one side off it, hellzbellz you can't even SEE the damn coupling....
OK. First off, Lets have a nice drink and relax. I like Jack
Daniels, so I'll pour myself some. There I feel better already. Just
thinking about your Valiant
makes me feel a WHOLE lot better than the Dodge Stratus with PCM problems
that I have 10+ hours in or the Caravan with BCM and Network Problems that
took 12 hours to fix and and I got paid for 3.
So, now that my drink is in hand, lets remove the side of your
VFO, and with your long skinny screwdriver (did I mention that this is a
REQUIRED tool
for anyone owning a Johnson anything??), reach inside the VFO and tighten
the two setscrews that attach the coupling to the capacitor shaft. That done,
let's do the same thing to the ones in the front of the coupler. IF you
can't get to them, take a look at the front of the VFO case through the
open side that you've removed and look for a slot that goes all the way to
the bottom of the shell. You SHOULD be able to remove the VFO shell by
removing the six nuts that are attached to the studs that stick through the
chassis. Once it's off, you can tighten all the hardware easily. Oh, did
I mention that you should ALWAYS
tighten all the hardware on ANY kit built radio. Most people NEVER get
anything tight. Let me know if you need my address. If you're going to
pay me to TAKE that Valiant and you live where it's WARM (5 degrees here
today and I worked in the lot most of the morning because the car doesn't
have problems where it's WARM), I'll PICK IT UP!!! I NEED A VACATION
because of all of this NEW ELECTRONIC CRAP!!!!!!!!!
Thanks!!
