Hey Folks,
I have spent some time giving my newly found Ranger a good look and
comparing to photos of what a stock radio should look like. Mine has many
mods.
I have decided the best course of action is to take all the mod junk out and
go back to the stock configuration as a starting point. If any of the mods
that were done were done in a quality fashion it might be worth figuring out
if it were worth keeping but most all of the work is pretty ratty.
A few parts are going to be needed....the one that concerns me most is SW-4.
The owner must have been a CW op because the operation switch is worn slap
out moving between STBY and CW. The Detent is slick with no switch
centering at all. The contacts are worn so badly that someone bolted a
couple replacements to the ceramic wafer. On the other wafer on for the CW
position is broken off. The whole thing is pretty ugly. If a replacement
could be found I think it would be best to replace it. If not I might be
able to continue the previous owners work of bolting in a couple of
contacts.
Also needed are L-10 the RF choke mounted to the chassis that feeds the
plate of the PA tube....and L13 which is suppose to be mounted upstream of
L-10 between the two bypass caps. Someone put a resistor in place of it and
it's burnt to a crisp. Maybe that's the choke...looks like a resistor
though...
Someone also replaced the large power resistor that has the sliding tap in
the power supply with a pile of various power resistors crammed into the
chassis. That's got to go..... So I'll be looking for that part as well.
Also missing are the 5 VFO adjustment extensions that allow for the
adjustment of the various trimmers without having to remove the cover. I
guess they were too much trouble to get back into position so they just did
away with them...
The 3 long screws that pull the cabinet up to the front panel. Mine has no
screws at all that hold the cabinet in place. I figure the ones that bolt
to the chassis should be no problem....something common should work.
Any help would be appreciated....I'll even spring for a parts unit that may
have been cannibalized but contains the needed parts and others...
Send me whatever you have and prices off list...
Thanks...
Cecil....
