Richard, Yea I know what you mean, thats alot alot of money to have tied up in a radio, but what a radio. Unlike any other, an incredible classic, and a real joy to operate! I had to take my Desk KW down while we remodeled the house and used the shack for storage and bedroom. Only recently have I cleared out the stored stuff to have room to set the desk up again, so my Desk should be on the air in a few weeks. I drive it with a Ranger II and use a 75A4 receiver.
I bought my Desk KW as a pedestal only. The desk attachment knockouts had never been removed. Later I found a real desk option (with label on the pencil drawer) for my Desk KW pedestal. The desk is in good mechanical condition but the finish is rough and needs to be repainted. The desk is sand colored for one thing. The story is this desk option was one that didn't get sold, so Johnson simply used it as a secretarys desk. Sometime later Johnson had the desk manufacturer come in and refurb the furniture. THis desk was repainted sand color to match the new furniture colors. Eventually the desk was sold off by the company and ended up in some teenagers room (its jammed full of funky stickers). From there it was sold in a garage sale to the guy I bought it from. Anyway, I need to remove the paint, fill in a small corner ding, get it painted, come up with some new linoleum, and get it done before winter sets in. I was planning to do this 2 years ago but was derailed by the remodeling. Hope to complete it this fall.
