Fw: [Johnson] Ranger VFO question.

One more thing regarding arching switches on the ranger. Many earlier ones
go into transmit by rotating a rotary switch when you want to transmit on
AM. (No clamper tube). This is marginal at best. A long time ago, I
re-capped a ranger and since electrolytic caps are cheap today and are
smaller in size, I figured more is better! So, I installed much more cap in
the power supply then the radio was designed to have within it. Guess what?
Whenever I would rotate the rotary switch to transmit on AM, a hell of an
arc would always occur on the wafer switch. In no time the switch would
have been destroyed from the arc. The cure was to reduce the filter caps to
values closer to original Johnson specifications.
