[Johnson] AC bypass capacitors

Jon: If my memory serves me, the AC main bypass capacitors should be the
nonpolarized disc ceramic type, and rated at approximately ten times the peak
to peak AC line voltage. Install them with as short a lead as feasible and
the lead that connects to the AC main should have an insulating sleeve
installed to protect against a possible short circuit to the chassis. A 1500
volt rated disc ceramic type should work ok. My Valiant uses 0.005 mfd value
on each side of the AC main but 0.001 may work just as well and reduce the
possibility of low voltage AC from developing between the chassis and ground
because of the reactance of the capacitor. -73- Sherrill W. k4own.

What's the right way to bypass the AC mains?

I remember a definitive post on this bulletin board on what sort of
caps to use, what not to use, where to put them and where not. But I
can't find the post.

Thanks,

Jon
