My Ranger, both Valiants, Viking II, National NC-183D, both Johnson
Thunderbolts, Hallicrafters SX-100, SX-42, HT-32A, all my Clegg
equipment, my Apaches, and bunch of other stuff have been converted, or
came with, solid state rectifiers in the power supply. The Apaches,
Viking II, NC-183D, and one of the Valiants were converted in the early
70's. My average AC line voltage for the last 10 years or so, has been
around 120 volts. When can I expect damage and failure?

Pete, wa2cwa
ps tube rectifiers are great for target practice.

Also the solid state rectifiers increase the voltage level over the tube
rectifier thereby causing the equipment to run hotter
and additional stress is placed on all of the components. Classic
equipment will be damaged by the simple addition of solid state
rectifiers and this must NEVER be performed. Also, classic equipment
should be operated at a low AC line voltage and never at the high
(120-125 levels) that is common today. My AC line voltage is 125 VAC and
I understand this is quite common.
For older equipment, 110 to 115 maximum would be better.-73- Sherrill W.
