Don't feel TOO stupid --- years ago in my younger days I had a Ham buddy
over for a visit, & after a few "...wobbly pops" we decided to tune-up on
40 CW to see what was what...

There was a VE2 calling CQ, so we jumped on him, but received a
disappointing RST 449 for our trouble.

Only later the next day did I discover that the antenna was NOT connected
to the output jack of my transmatch --- that collection of rotary
inductance & huge air variable caps made quite a dummy load for my Ranger-
1, but not (obviously!) a very good one, if I could be heard in Montreal!
