The odds are that what you are hearing are people running solid state
rice
boxes in the AM mode. Very few foks have gone to the trouble of getting
some
type of monitor scope in line with the transmitter, thus they don't even
know what their transmitted signal looks like.
If we ever get the chance to work each other on AM, you will hear how
nicely
an unmodified Johnson Ranger 1, late model with the factory PTT and grid
block keying sounds with a stock (no pre-amp D-104 microphone.
