That is one substitution that I heartedly approve of! 
Back in the late 1950s and into the 1960s people would
almost "kill" to get their hands on 6293 tubes.

The use of these tubes is outlined in the 6146 family
article on my two websites.

I have several 6293 tubes and use them in the rigs
that I use the most.
