[Johnson] learning loads

I'll only answer this in the context of what I've owned.
I've owned most of the Heathkits, an Eico, a Millen 90651, and my most recent addition is the Kenwood. I've whittled my collection down to the Millen and the Kenwood.
By far, the best of the Heathkits, IMHO, is the last one; the HD-1250. If I had the choice, I wouldn't touch any other Heath dip meters. It's small size allows it to go places where a Millen can't. Note that the HD-1250 uses a 40673 MOSFET, which is no longer manufactured (but likely can be substituted).
I only sold the HD-1250 because I got the Kenwood, which does some things that none of the other dip meters do (plus it's in a really cool cased that stores the coils inside).
I own the Millen because it was cheap and because it's tres cool to look at inside. Technically, I could probably get by with just the Kenwood. The tube used by the Millen may be difficult to find locally.
