Well I am back to ground zero with the Viking II.  I was on the air with it 
tonight
excellent signal reports and so on. All of a sudden the rig started to smell 
the plate
reading started to get funny and the modulation just went away.  When I 
opened it back
up I discovered the voltage divider resistor had failed.  The one from the 
other Viking
was also bad and I will not rob the one off if the Viking I even if it is 
the same value.
I will look at the parts stash, I have a bunch of large ceramics such a R13 
but I don't think any of them have the expose windings for the tap. I think 
the "R" in R13 stands for Revenge.  I think I have come up with a name for 
this rig "he Barbarian"

I have a schematic here for a Mod' to the Viking II that gets rid of R13 and 
replaces
it with a pair of OB3 regulators.  I have all of the parts for this 
conversion. it would be a better way of doing what R13 does. Has anyone out 
there done this and is it a good
modification?
