Wow what a learning experience this Viking 2 has been. I finely =
completed all of the adjustments. The voltage divider (R13) was out of =
whack, which in turn whacked out the clamp circuit. when I finely was =
able to get a look at the plate current with the vfo turned off, and no =
crystals in circuit the current supplied by the 6AQ5 was zero which is =
why I managed to blow so many fuses. The 6146's where running away =
because there was nothing to stop them. All settings are now as they =
should be. Modulation level seems to be up to snuff, at least on the =
scope. When I get it on the air we will see how it sounds. All of the =
settings when the tuned to my favorite portion of the 80 band are were =
they should be. It was key down at 230 mill's plate current for 30 =
minutes, into my cantenna of course. all meter readings where stable. I =
have a set of 6146 tubes which I do need to replace but they will get =
me back on the air. I really think I have it this time. =20

The Viking 1 I suspect is going to really be fun. I lucked out with the =
Viking 2 it is factory wired, and was owned by Ham's who seem to have =
taken care of it. I am not that lucky with the Viking 1. It was =
assemble by a SK ham I knew for decades. I call his style of assembly =
hanging Chad style. hanging wire wound resisters,
well I don't have the correct resister for this but if I put four of =
these in parallel it will be the same thing, wow look at that blob of =
solder it looks like a rabbit turd.....etc. To be sure the Viking one =
had decades of use but it also sat for at least 30 years in Hal's
basement. I think I'll take a vacation from transmitters and instead fix =
up the SP 600, or perhaps the RME-45.

                         What fun!!!!
                             Ken
